Woodlawn Cemetery

Located at 540 Cumberland Street, Cornwall’s first multi-faith cemetery is Woodlawn, which was incorporated in August of 1888 in anticipation of the Town restricting further burials within the Mile Square, with existing cemeteries then nearing capacity.

The earliest recorded burial at the Woodlawn property dates to 1830, when this was a family farm. The Cornwall Cemetery Co. Ltd purchased 96 acres of land for $5,000 from Corydon Mattice on December 16, 1889. Today the cemetery occupies 14 acres, with ample room for growth.

In addition to being the final resting place of many veterans and others, it also features a memorial area near the entrance for all veterans and active service personnel across the globe.

Amenities includes a good selection of open-air columbariums and benches for visitors.

June of 1989 saw the dedication of Woodlawn’s first columbarium, the first within the City limits.

Personal memorials for known veterans resting or commemorated in this cemetery can be accessed on the page found at this Find-a-grave URL.
